He served in the Navy from 1988 to 1998, both on active duty and as a reservist.

He received his Bachelors of Science degree in physical therapy from Sacramento State University and began practicing in Stockton California. In 2002 he completed the Kaiser Hayward Manual Therapy internship program and received his certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy and moved to Oregon to continue his career. In 2007 he became an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and shortly after that received his doctoral degree in physical therapy from AT Still University in Mesa, Az.
Dr. Saling’s accident and the pain and limitations that have resulted from it has led him to focus his training and practice on persistent pain care. He has taught the physiology and care of persistent pain to physicians, health care professionals and patients for the last 10 years. He has served on advisory boards for multiple organizations dedicated to the care and treatment of persistent pain.
